Victor Agius
23 November 2025 – 11 January 2026
In this temporary exhibition, Gozitan artist Victor Agius explores the theme of the Nativity as a liminal threshold. Twenty years after his exhibition Nativitas, he returns to this sacred theme, inviting viewers to dwell and contemplate the Mystery of the Incarnation, where matter meets spirit and silence receives light. In this exhibition, Agius’s sculptures and works will be in dialogue with important works on the Nativity, which will be temporarily loaned to Il-Ħaġar for the duration of this exhibition, including one by Stefano Erardi.
Born in 1982 in Gozo, Malta, Victor Agius developed an early interest in sculpture through his father, Mario Agius. He graduated from the University of Malta’s Fine Art Department in 2004 and pursued further studies at the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Perugia (2009) and Central Saint Martin’s, London (2011). His work, encompassing performance, installation, sculpture, and painting, engages with formless, earth-derived materials to explore human existence and personal limits. Agius has exhibited widely in Malta, including at the National Museum of Fine Arts and Ġgantija Temples, and internationally in venues such as Florence, Rome, and Oxford.
Admission to Il-Ħaġar remains free.
The Museum is open Monday to Sunday, 9:00-17:00, but will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
