The Beethoven200 series – Part 1 An Introduction to the Piano Sonatas

This lecture-recital taking place on Friday 17 April at 7.30pm consists of the first of a series of lecture-recitals organised by the Museum to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death in 1827. Devised, led and presented by Francis Camilleri, this series of 5 lecture-recitals spread over 2 years will focus on the eminent composer’s 32 piano sonatas, offering insights into works that have become a staple of the piano repertoire.

Taking place at the Aula Mgr Giuseppe Farrugia, at the back of St George’s Basilica, this first lecture-recital will serve as an introduction to the subject, discussing the context and selected examples that best exemplify Beethoven’s developing style, from the early youthful sonatas to the late introspective works.

Admission is free but registration is encouraged by sending an email to events@heartofgozo.org.mt.
