The ‘Gozo Miracle’ Returns: Victoria International Arts Festival Launches 29th Edition

June 12 @ 8:00 pm – July 13 @ 8:00 pm

The 29th edition of the highly anticipated Victoria International Arts Festival kicks off this Friday, 12 June, at 20:00 with an all-Spanish/Latin American concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of British conductor Philip Walsh at Teatru Astra. Star soloist Simon Schembri will perform Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. Patrons are advised to reserve seats by sending an email to info@viaf.org.mt.

The Artistic Director, George J. Frendo, said that a series of 30 concerts and cultural events – taking place practically daily until Monday, 13 July – will follow this inaugural event. Big bands, choirs and chamber ensembles of every conceivable formation, performing in different venues across Victoria, feature on this year’s programme. Musicians from 22 different countries, including Malta, will ensure that VIAF once again delivers a programme of excellence and beauty.

One of the most awaited concerts of the Festival is the al fresco performance by the prestigious Royal Conservatoire Brass of Scotland, which will take place on the stunning rooftop of Il-Ħaġar Museum on Thursday 18 June.

The Victoria International Arts Festival is the Maltese Islands’ longest-running festival of its kind; it is also unique in offering all its concerts and events free of charge to the public. No wonder it has been dubbed ‘The Gozo Miracle’ by critic Albert Storace.
