IMAGES OF THE ORIENT: A GRAHAM GURR EXHIBITION

21 Sep 2018 - 19 Oct 2018

Images of the Orient is an exhibition of drawings by British  artist Graham Gurr inspired by his travels to the Orient over a number of years. The drawings are mostly executed with pen and ink together with a few etchings. The drawings depict a number of scenes from life together with imaginative drawings illustrating experiences from his various journeys.

Countries like China, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam all offer the visitor a rich cultural experience. Graham was moved by his experiences there and was struck by the cultural diversity.

The drawings give viewers the chance to feel some of the richness of the Orient and allow people to witness the images that inspired Graham. The imaginative elements are stylistically unique to Graham’s work often being a decorative embellishment that expresses a unique characteristic of his work.

The exhibition will be open between 21 September and 19 October 2018 at Il-Ħaġar Museum, from 9:00 to 17:00.
