Open call for artists to hold temporary exhibitions at the museum


Il-Hagar – Heart of Gozo Museum is taking the initiative to organize temporary exhibitions, starting from next April 2014, in the foyer of the Museum premises in St. George’s Square, Victoria – Gozo. This is an open call for artists aged 18 and over who are interested in presenting solo exhibitions or collective projects in this central space in Victoria, Gozo.

The Museum aims in organizing a monthly exhibition for the duration of approximately 3 weeks. Exhibitors will be allocated 3 days for setting up prior to the opening and another 3 days for dismantling after the closing day. The Museum’s exhibition organizer will offer support in the setting up and dismantling of the exhibition.

The Museum will not charge any fees for the use of the exhibition space. All works exhibited will be on sale at an additional 25% on each item that will go towards the needs of the Museum. All exhibitors are to donate one work to the museum to be included in its permanent collection. The artist and a representative of the Museum will together determine the choice of the donated work. In the case of collective exhibitions, a joint agreement is to be reached regarding the donated work.

The organizers will provide invigilation at all times and will pledge to take care of all works exhibited, but cannot be held responsible for any damage, loss or thefts. Promotion to the exhibition will be given on the Museum’s website and social media pages and the organizing group will also work towards substantial media coverage of each exhibition.

Applicants are asked to provide good quality photographs of five to ten of their works and a CV including contact details, E-mail address and relevant information regarding previous participations in exhibitions and artistic training. The works submitted could range from drawings to paintings, prints, illustrations, collages, photography, reliefs and sculptures. Copied works should not be submitted. The Museum accepts works already exhibited in other instances and is open to hosting retrospective exhibitions.

The photographs, CV and other information are to be sent to the E-mail address or by post to Heart of Gozo – Il-Hagar, Pjazza San Gorg, VCT 1101, Victoria – Gozo, Malta by not later than the 28th February, 2014. The administration of the museum will view the entries and approach the selected artists to discuss in further detail and reach an agreement about the final collection of works to be exhibited at Il-Hagar- Heart of Gozo.
