On Tuesday 27th May 2025, Il-Ħaġar Museum hosted high-level meetings of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), who were visiting Malta and Gozo to explore connectivity and sustainable tourism strategies. During their visit to Gozo, the delegation, led by Lithuanian MEP Virginijus Sinkevičius, held meetings at Il-Ħaġar with the Gozo Regional Development Authority and the Gozo Tourism Association, where they exchanged views on how to address unbalanced tourism and mitigate seasonal fluctuations within the specific context of the island’s double insularity. This was the first such delegation ever to visit Gozo.
TRAN Committee First Vice-Chair Sinkevičius was joined by Irish MEP Nina Carberry (EPP), Spanish MEP Elena Nevado Del Campo (EPP), Portuguese MEP Sérgio Gonçalves (S&D), Maltese MEP Daniel Attard (S&D), and French MEP Arash Saeidi (The Left). The delegation also included several interpreters, technicians, and members of the press.
