New Mosaics Exhibition at Gozo’s Il-Ħaġar Museum

In the next temporary exhibition at Il-Ħaġar Museum, Gozitan artist Mary Portelli showcases no fewer than 45 of her latest works, several of which depict familiar landmarks in Gozo such as the Gran Castello, Comino Tower, St Anthony’s Battery, Kenuna Tower, Gordan Lighthouse, Sopu Tower, and the Carnival Monument in Nadur. These pieces are made mostly from ceramic tile, which the artist meticulously cuts to emulate the actual buildings. They are set against a variety of tesserae, namely broken crockery, local stone, smalti, shells, mug handles, and other media.

Curated by Marika Azzopardi, 𝐌𝐔𝐙̇𝐀𝐣𝐤 will be inaugurated on Saturday 13 September at 19:30, and everyone is invited to the official opening. The exhibition then runs until 16 November and may be viewed during Il-Ħaġar Museum’s opening hours of 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Sunday. Admission is, as always, free.
